A status yellow weather warning has been issued for three counties beginning Wednesday at 6pm.
The rainfall warning has been issued for Kerry, Cork and Waterford, for 24 hours, according to Met Eireann.
It will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the country today “persistent in southeastern coastal counties with an ongoing risk of spot flooding there.”
The forecaster added: “Windy in many areas today also, with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds, but winds will gradually moderate from the southwest this afternoon. Afternoon temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees generally, but 8 to 11 degrees in the southwest.”
Overnight, rain will become lighter and patchier but it will remain cloudy in many areas.
Temperatures will be colder overnight, with lows of 3 to 7 degrees generally, and cooler 1 or 2 degrees occurring.
Heading into tomorrow, Friday, it will remain cloudy with patchy rain, drizzle and mist. There will be more persistent rain along Atlantic coasts by the afternoon, and through the rest of the county over the afternoon and evening.
