The first trailer has just dropped for H Is for Hawk, starring Brendan Gleeson and Claire Foy, and it looks set to be one of next year’s most emotional releases.
Yes, the film will hit cinemas in January, and safe to say we’re eagerly counting down the days!
Based on Helen Macdonald’s bestselling memoir of the same name, H Is for Hawk brings the powerful true story to the big screen.
According to the official synopsis: “When Helen’s (Claire Foy) beloved father Alisdair (Brendan Gleeson) passes away, she is knocked sideways by grief and loses herself in memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together.”

In her heartbreak, Helen becomes fixated on training her own goshawk, a wild and fearsome creature she names Mabel, while juggling her life as a graduate fellow at Cambridge.
“Helen fills the freezer with hawk food and turns off her phone, ready to embark on the long, strange business of trying to train this wildest of animals,” the synopsis continues.
“But as she labours to tame Mabel, a grieving Helen undergoes an untaming of her own.”
The film comes from The Crown director Philippa Lowthorpe, who co-wrote the screenplay alongside acclaimed Irish author Emma Donoghue.
Alongside Claire and Brendan, the cast also features another talented Irish name, Denise Gough.
We love to see it!
H Is for Hawk lands in cinemas on Friday, 23 January 2026.
