Michael D. Higgins appeared on The Late Late Show last night for a half hour interview with Ryan Tubridy -and viewers were very impressed by the president!
The 75-year-old spoke about his life as president, his plans for Ireland’s future and recalled anecdotes from his childhood.
When asked whether he would run for a second term as president he gave a cryptic response.
“I knew you would ask me that.” he told Ryan. “You were at the Ploughing. I said I’ll say to him when he’s at the Ploughing in 2018 I’ll have made my decision by then.
“If I make any comment now, it would interfere with the programme I planned out, the things I am doing in 2017 and 2018. I am going to Vietnam in November,” he continued.
“It’s a great privilege to be President of Ireland. The best way the President can fulfil that role is you must have respect for the Constitution, you must protect the ceremonial because it’s important, you’re representing the people of Ireland at home and abroad.”
Viewers were blown away by Michael’s intelligence, wit and charm through out the interview and they took to Twitter to show their appreciation for the president.
Bressie performed on the show last night with his band The Blizzards so he got to meet Michael and he also took to social media to show his appreciation for the president.
