This week’s Lodging With Lucy episode saw Today FM’s Ian Dempsey appear alongside Mario Rosenstock as the pair opened up about their lives.
While the trio’s antics certainly held the attention of viewers for all the right reasons, conversation soon turned to personal issues, with Ian Dempsey opening up about his type two diabetes diagnosis.

Chatting with Lucy, he said that for a while he thought something was up, blaming the development of diabetes on ‘too much wine and good food’.
Spuring him to go to the doctors to be checked out, Ian told the story of the time when he was on holiday with his family and couldn’t seem to quench his thirst,
“Even at the airport, I had to bring a big bottle of water, just to get through security, so I said there’s something wrong here.”
He went on to explain that he had been admitted to hospital upon returning back home, where he was then diagnosed with the disease.
“I went into hospital for a couple of days when I came back and found out then.”
Going on to say that it isn’t ideal but he’s learned to live with it, he added:
“It is what it is, but you can deal with it. It’s not a death sentence but it’s a life sentence.”
Viewers were quick to praise Ian for his honesty, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.
“Fair play to Ian for opening up about his health battle, isn’t easy to be so honest” wrote one.
While another said:
“Good on you Iano, diabetes is a life sentence, something to live with.”
Other fans were just happy to see some comic relief on the TV after a nail-biting day of waiting for restriction announcements.
