Vicky Phelan shares update following recent bout of ill health

Vicky Phelan has revealed she’s on the mend again, following a recent bout of ill health.

The mum-of-two is currently in the US taking part a cancer treatment trial in a bid to shrink her tumours and prolong her life, but the side effects have been taking their toll on her body.

After treatment last week, Vicky ended up back up hospital after falling ill – and while she was quite sick for a few days, is thankfully feeling better now.

“I’ve been quite ill. I have had a rough week. This was the worst one, really. It’s been quite bad,” she said.

“The side effects lasted longer this time. It took me until Saturday to come around. I was really good on Saturday. There was beautiful weather here, I went out for lunch.

“On Sunday I was in bed most of the day, it was like a migraine and I couldn’t shake it. I felt nauseous for the day too.”

Vicky revealed Sunday was also very hard, as it was the first Mother’s Day she has spent away from her children.

“It didn’t help then that apart from the fact I was feeling crappy, I was homesick too because it was Mother’s Day and I’m here and not at home. I felt that very much,” she said.

“I could’t look at posts from people about Mother’s Day. It was too much. The kids were grand but I really would have loved to be at home with them. It was definitely harder for me and I was feeling sick so felt sorry for myself.”

Despite this, Vicky is now in a much better place after some rest and recuperation.

“I’m fine again, feeling good. It was a rough week but I’m fighting fit again. I want to take it easy this week before treatment again next week,” she said.

Vicky’s next trip to hospital is a big one, as she’ll be undergoing scans and tests to see if her tumours have started to shrink since beginning treatment in the US.

We wish her well!
