Vicky Phelan has revealed she’s feeling much better following a recent health scare which left her hospitalised last week.
The mum-of-two is currently in the US undergoing a new cancer treatment trial in a bid to shrink her tumours and prolong her life, but sadly, the side effects took a great toll on her body over the weekend.
Vicky felt fine after the first course of treatment, but following her second, fell incredibly ill and was brought to hospital for urgent care.
“It’s been up and down, I had my second infusion on Tuesday just last week and I had my first one two weeks prior to that and that went reasonably well,” she said on Newstalk.
“I had very few side effects, a slight bit of nausea so very pleased to be quite honest because you never know with a new drug how you’re going to respond.
“But, this week I had my second dose on Tuesday and I felt great Tuesday, felt great Wednesday, I was nearly feeling, there’s nothing happening here.”
It all changed on Thursday, when her health deteriorated.
“I got very very sick… so sick that I ended up in hospital on Valentine’s Day to have IV fluids basically because I was so dehydrated from all the vomiting.
“I’m feeling good today again thank god, they found an anti sickness medication that I can dissolve on my tongue because the ones that I was taking orally weren’t hitting my stomach in time for them to work. I’m feeling better today so hopefully we have a better handle on it.”
While in hospital last week, Vicky said, “It’s been a sh*t two days. I didn’t think it would be this bad. There’s only so much you can take.”
We’re glad to hear she’s feeling better.
