Vicky Phelan shares health update as she continues cancer treatment trial in the US

Vicky Phelan has revealed she’s doing well and in great spirits, as she continues her cancer treatment trial in the US.

The mum-of-two is almost five months into her treatment, which she hopes will shrink her tumours, but will only find out the results in a matter of weeks.

As it stands, Vicky is on a slightly lower dose of the treatment but this will be increasing this towards the summer – and all going well, she should be allowed to come home to Ireland to visit her husband and children.

“At the moment, I am stable, which is always good at this stage of the disease,” she said on the Six O’Clock Show.

“But I am still only on half the dose and we agreed that I would wait until May, I have another scan coming up then, and we should hopefully see a better improvement and more shrinkage of the tumours.

“It is only the end of April so I have another nine weeks and he is hoping to have me on the full dose of the drug in the next three or four weeks.”

Vicky’s biggest concern at the moment, is a constant ache in her back.

“Mostly I am really good physically but I am having a lot of bother with my back, I am sitting here with a hot water bottle on me,” she said.

“I had an MRI last week to see what might be causing it and of course I jumped to cancer, thinking the tumours are getting bigger or there are new tumours. But they don’t seem to think it is cancer related. It could be inflammation.”

We wish her the very best of luck as she continues this journey.
