Two boys from Dublin, Scott and Derek, are embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, all for a good cause.
Walking from Coolock on Dublin’s northside all the way to the Cliffs Of Moher in County Clare – that’s around 260km for anyone wondering. The two 19-year-olds are aiming to raise as much money for ABACAS Kilbarrack Special School, which is a school specifically for children with autism.
The boys left their starting point on Sunday morning, and are still currently en route. Arriving in Birr last night, the two enjoyed a well-deserved rest in a hotel and now have 16k left of the journey.
Chatting with FM104 about why they decided to embark on the journey they said:
“I was talking to Derek and I was like ‘I want to do something crazy that I can have a memory of.’ I just kind of said ‘Will we go to the Cliffs of Moher,’ but we obviously can’t drive so I just said ‘Why not walk?”
“There’s no better way to do it than to raise some money for charity. Both of our cousins go to the school, so there’s no other charity to do it for.”
The money the boys are raising will go towards new facilities for the children in their chosen school. And it looks like their journey is going to make a big change to the lives of those children, as over €15 thousand has been raised so far.
