Chloe Agnew, eldest daughter of panto queen Adele King and musician David Agnew, has spoken out about how music helped mend her relationship with her dad, following his affair with his RTE Concert Orchestra bandmate, Ruth Hickey.
Following her parents marriage breakdown, the 27-year-old’s bond with her father was broken, but now they are working to rebuild it, with the help of music.
Speaking to TVNow magazine Chloe said, “My dad and I went through a lot, for a very tumultuous period of all our lives, which was quite public.
“It actually took music to bring us back together. Realising you have a unique bond is really special, and really rare, and it needs to be cherished.
“It was really when that penny dropped that it all became a very organic thing, it wasn’t forced, it was really enjoyable and it made sense, like, why didn’t we do this more. There’s this weird understanding when you perform, as a family, that it’s intuitive.
“With my dad, it’s special. And he’s always emotional… With my dad he turns into this crying teddy bear, he gets really overwhelmed and emotional because we perform these beautiful songs together.”
The blonde Celtic Woman singer also revealed to the magazine that her parents are on good terms now, saying that they both realise life is too short.
“Yeah, I think all of us realise that life is so short and we all only really have so much time together and then you have to move on, you have to get over things, life is life.
“Both of my parents are great believers in having a positive outlook on life,” she said.
