Tributes have begun to pour in for former RTE 2DM DJ, Simon Young after his passing this week.

The radio broadcaster passed away this week at the age of 62 and many of his RTE colleagues have been paying tribute to him online since the news broke.

Many will remember Simon from sketches back in the 80’s and 90’s, as well as appearances on The Den and his regular radio show.

The radio star also worked with Brendan O’Carroll throughout the years, as well as taking part in the Olympia Production of Mrs Brown’s Last Wedding.

Speaking with The Irish Sun Brendan paid tribute to his former colleague; “I was very lucky to have had Simon in the cast of The Course and Mrs Brown’s Last Wedding, as well as our movie Sparrows Trap.”

“He was such a funny man and a genius in his own right as a writer and performer. There are very few that can boast of proficiency in radio presenting, television presenting, film acting, stage actor and author. He could.”

Other RTE stars also paid tribute to Simon, with his close friend and Today FM presenter, Ian Dempsey saying;  “Extremely sad news about Thomas Anthony Meade AKA Simon Young RIP – a naturally deep thinking soul, loving, funny friend.”

Remembering moments they shared together on The Den, Dustin the Turkey shared; “So sad to hear that Simon Young is no longer with us. We’d great craic on The Den with Simon as each week he brought us The Pop Gossip proving beyond proof that we didn’t use scripts!”

“Hope there’s a big aul garden in heaven he can tell people to get outra! RIP Pal. #simonyoung”.

Our thoughts are with Simon’s family and friends at this time.
