Top GAA star, Aidan O’Shea has revealed that he suffers from a very unique phobia -fructophobia, and in case you don’t know what that is, it’s a fear of fruit!
Aidan made the unlikely admission during a cook off challenge with Irish hurler TJ Reid to promote Kellogg’s Powering Play for Children this morning.
The sports stars under took the task of creating several healthy meals suitable for kids in association with Kellogg’s Cul Camp’s healthy eating campaign, however, when Aidan was quizzed by Baz Ashmawy on his own eating habits, the GAA player admitted that he hates fruit, which stems from a childhood fear.
Speaking at the event, he said, “When i was younger, if mum asked me to bring fruit over to my neighbour’s house, I would literally hold a banana out at arms length – I couldn’t even touch it. I know it’s weird!”
The hunky player said he can’t even bring himself to go near fruit when feeding his toddler daughter, but when it comes to his ‘cheat meal’, he seems to forget his fear.
“I have many cheat meals,” he told Baz, “But I absolutely love lemon drizzle cake. It’s my weakness, I can never get enough of it!”
After a lengthy competition, hurler TJ Reid was crowned the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps Cook-Off Champion for 2016.
However, Aidan took the defeat in his stride and rather than dwelling on his loss, he relayed the message of the Kellogg’s event.
He said, “Looking after yourself includes looking at what you are eating, making sure you are not skipping meals and listening to your body.
“Running on empty is not an option and it really affects your performance both at training and on match day.
“I love my food and I love being active and I would encourage all youngsters to get out and about, be active and to make sure they’re eating what they need to maintain their energy levels.”
Well said, Aidan!
