Tommy Tiernan mistook Vogue Williams for a black tennis player when he interviewed her on his show.
The comedian interviewed the model as part of The Tommy Tiernan Show – a show where he interviews celebrities but doesn’t know who he’s interviewing until they come on the show.
Tommy admitted when he initially heard her name he thought she was either Venus or Serena Williams, as he’d never heard of her before.
“I thought when I heard her name that she was a black tennis player,” he told the Irish Daily Star..
“I didn’t know Vogue. There were things about Vogue that I only found out after I interviewed her in the green room afterwards,”
However, despite his initial mistake, Tommy said it ended up being one of the funniest interviews if the series.
“I can’t tell you how it started off but it was one of the funniest interviews of the series.” he said. “It was the type of show where the emphasis is on conversation. It isn’t on making the person vulnerable.
“It is just about having fun and being serious. The Vogue interview got serious at times. But with Vogue now, I would absolutely feel confident if I saw her in a health club that I could walk over and continue our chat.”
