Actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor has devestated fans by shooting down any hopes that hit RTE show Love/Hate will return to our screens for another series.
He said that it was very unlikely that the gangland drama would return to television, and thinks it’s best to leave on a high.
The show ended on a high in 2014 with Tom’s character, drug dealing kingpin Nidge, being shot – presumably dead – by pipe bomber Patrick in a bloody finale. Fans were left in awe, and despite pleas for another series Tom said that it is best to leave it as is.
Speaking to The Herald, Tom said “It was a brilliant show, a groundbreaking drama for Ireland and I think it compares well to any of the other great drama series around the world.”
“It ended with a great climax – and sometimes it’s best to just call time.”
Luckly though, the Dublin born actor is gracing our screens again this weekend with rebellion themed drama, Trial of the Century, where he plays Padraig Pearse.
It is a three part fictional drama that imagines an alternative end for Padraig Pearse, one where he is spared execution.
Tom said that it was an honour and a humbling experience to play Pearse.
“Padraig Pearse is one of the most important figures in our history and it was incredibly humbling to play him, It certainly made me realise more than before the significance of what he did, and how extraordinary it was at the time. It was incredibly eye-opening.”
You can catch Trial of the Century this Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 9pm on TV3. We can’t wait.
