Three protective hairstyles for summer

After having a week full of bright skies and warm heat, we could not be more excited for summer time to finally roll around. Going on long walks, setting up picnics and spending a lot of time in and out of water, although fun, can also take a huge toll on our hair.

Pools and ocean water can have many negative effects on your hair, especially if you have any type of dye that you’re trying to maintain.

If you have dyed blonde hair the chlorine in swimming pools can turn your hair green and also dry out your ends. Chlorine can also cause red heads and brunettes’ hair to turn lighter and become more damaged, frizzy and dry.

Whether you’re a bleach blonde, a brunette or a redhead we all need to protect our hair this summer time from becoming dry and damaged.

Sometimes, by using nourishing products and low tension hairstyles, you can prevent this damage from occurring. Here are three of our go-to protective hairstyles we’ll be using this summer.

Dutch Braids

Simple, effortless and timeless. Two Dutch braids are one of the best protective hairstyles to wear in your hair this summer.

The Dutch brain is simple to learn and very adaptable. There is little to no styling needed once your braids are been finished and they will help maintain your wild hair all day.

If you want to take the protectiveness of this hairstyle a bit further, you could apply a hair mask before braiding your hair to wash out at the end of the day.

Elastic Hair Combs

A new versatile hair tool has hit the market. We’ve taken a step back into the 90’s with the return of elastic hair combs.

These combs are giving hair a new lees to life by allowing you to create multiple different types of hairstyles as well as protecting your hair from high tension products and tools.

This clip is perfect for keeping your beachy waves out of your hair all day and will also give you a chic, simple up-do.

Slick-Back Bun

With busy days in the sun, you don’t want to be thinking about your hair. A slick-back bun using your favourite nourishing hair mask will not only keep your hair out of your face and neat all day long it will also take care and condition your hair at the same time.

If you wanted to use some gel for a sleeker effect, make sure to use a waterproof one to prevent any strayaways when getting in and out of the pool.

Make sure to remember that any excess pool time can cause your hair to dry out so make sure to keep cleansing your scalp during shampoos, receive regular trims and deep condition a couple times a week. Happy swimming!
