Thousands of Irish Netflix subscribers have been targeted as part of an email scam. Many users of the popular tv and movie streaming website were sent an email telling them that their subscription had been cancelled.
The email asked users to sign up to the site again and provide personal information, including their bank details. Despite seeming authentic, the correspondence was not from Netflix and rather from an imposter.
Irish watchdog for cyber security, ESAT, have issued a warning about the scam. They’ve even detailed what the email reads, so that users can beware. It says: “We’re sorry to say goodbye. We’ve cancelled your Netflix Account.
“This change will be effective . If you’ve changed your mind and you would like to continue, simply click here.
“To enjoy TV shows & movies without interruption. We hope you enjoyed the service – and we’d love to have you back someday.”
ESAT have stated that if you receive this email you should ignore it, report it and immediately delete it.
