Thomas Barr revealed that he doesn’t believe sports will ever be fully clean, when asked his thoughts on the doping scandal that surrounded the 2016 Olympics on The Late Late Show last night.
The olympic hero, who came fourth in the 400m hurdles, missed last week’s olympian packed show due to training commitments in Zurich so, Tubs made sure to fit him in on this week’s show!
After questioning him about his time spent in Rio, Ryan skipped right to the tough stuff and asked the Waterford native what he thought about the doping scandal that tainted this year’s games and whether he thought there was hope for a clean Olympic future.
“You know, there was so much controversy surrounding it,” he told Ryan.
“I don’t think sport is ever going to be completely clean Anti-doping is so far behind doping but at the same tie all we can do is go out and race whatever’s in front of us there’s part of me that thinks there was three of them in front of me, but how many in front of me could have been on drugs aswell. ”
The talk show host then went on to ask him whether he expects to get a medal in the post in the future if it is found out that any of his opponents cheated.
“The way things are going it’s not unlikely but I’m not going to call it,” he said.
“If it happens it happens, it would almost be like a hollow victory, to come over the line and miss out on your name being in the third position, second position or wherever. There’s a part of me that wishes I finished 5th, 6th or further down because there’s less of a possibility but I mean to have a medal would be unbelievable.”
You’ll always be our number one, Thomas!
