This year’s Eurovision entry Brooke Scullion has been making waves with her song ‘That’s Rich’ but before she brings it to Italy in May, the singer stopped by The Late Late Show to update fans on her life since winning the opportunity to represent Ireland at this year’s competition.

And while there has been many brilliant changes, like her first time being recognised by a fan, which happened in Zara’s menswear section, it hasn’t all gone smoothly.

Brooke opened up about a disastrous moment when she nearly missed a Eurovision performance in Barcelona. The Derry girl confessed; “I was so so excited. Barcelona number one.”

“The last time I was there, I got food poisoning and I lost my mobile phone. This time. I was talking to these people beside me on the airplane. They were going to Brazil and I was like ‘oh here’ I told them who I was. And then I left my passport on the plane. It was so bad.”

Explaining that the mishap led to her missing the start of the Barcelona Eurovision Party 2022.

Saying; “then everyone was like, ‘Oh no, Ireland has snubbed the red carpet,’ but they kept me in jail. I wasn’t allowed to enter the country. Like illegal.”

Her passport never turned up as she detailed; “I thought I’d set it in the wee glove compartment. But when they checked the plane, they couldn’t find it, so it’s mysterious.”

When Ryan asked how she got through passport control, the 23-year-old, explained; “They weren’t listening to me. I don’t know if they were just like ‘this is a wee girl who’s lost her passport.’

“So Chanel, is the Spanish representative for Spain this year in Eurovision. She’s like massive like the third biggest star in Madrid, like in Spain and like the whole thing. And I was trying to say to them ‘I am the Irish Chanel.'”

So needing proof of identity Brooke tried to use her Eurovision song.

Saying; “‘I am the Irish Chanel.’ and they were like ‘what’ so I got YouTube and I put my name in and then I let them listen to it. They didn’t really change their expressions but I knew they loved it.”

Brooke eventually made it to the event and was able to perform on stage, but she did miss the red carpet at the beginning.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is the 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It will take place in Turin, Italy, following the country’s victory at the 2021 contest with the song ‘Zitti e buoni’ by Måneskin.

Best of luck Brooke!
