Clare man, Padraig Howley has gone viral as he documents his new vegan diet

With everything as bleak as it is on the news at the moment, we’re all about finding the good things online. Scrolling through our newsfeed this week, Padraig Howley was like a ray of sunshine and many others seem to think so too.

The 67-year-old from Kilfenora, Co. Clare is using Instagram to document his new vegan diet as he’s on a mission to get fitter and healthier.

To begin, he’s trying it for the next 21 days and is using The Happy Pear’s cookbook to guide him along the way!

In his very first post he shared why he set up the page; ‘My name is Padraig I’m 67 and I’m on a journey to get fit. I am attempting to go vegan for 21 days starting tomorrow February 22nd.”

“I met Dave and Stephen Flynn from @thehappypear for a sunrise swim with @snamhaisasta and I never thought I’d ever say I would go vegan. But with advice from doctors and health professionals, I need to make a few changes. So here I am.”

He continued; “I hope you can follow this page and maybe I can help to motivate someone else. I am new to Instagram and am a very slow typer so my daughter is typing this for me now, I’ll get learning and ‘blogging’ soon.’”

So far he’s shared making a Vietnamese coconut and tempeh curry as well as a cottage pie with sweet potato mash and coriander drizzle. This wholesome, adorable content is exactly what we need right now.

After only being on the app for a week, Padraig now has almost 57k followers as people are tuning in to see him cook as well as sing!

Lots of famous faces are now following and encouraging the Clare man, with Roz Purcell commenting; “I live for the updates” and Darren Kennedy posting; “Good man yourself!!!”

Of course The Happy Pear always have a few words of encouragement for him commenting “Wow so cool Padraig you’re amazing!!”
