Twink has revealed that she’s turned her back on alcohol following a revelation back in 2011.
The panto queen admitted that she drank a lot more than she should have a number of years ago, and has worked hard to change that.
“I was clearly drinking too much,” she told the Sunday Independent.
She revealed that she would “easily” drink a bottle of wine a night when at home, adding, “And more if I was out. I have always done everything huge, and drink wouldn’t be an exception.”
“Weight-loss organisations always talk about having a ‘unit’ of alcohol. Don’t make me laugh. I’ve never done a unit of anything in my life. I’m a compulsive personality, and if I can’t have the bottle, my attitude would be, feck that, I won’t want any of it at all.”
And that is exactly what she did. Twink admitted that she completely cut out her drinking, and it wasn’t nearly as difficult as she expected.
Twink (real name Adele King) revealed that it was spotting a photograph of herself looking considerably slimmer that gave her the final push she needed to quit the booze, as she realised it was taking a toll on her health and causing weight gain, which was making her unhappy.
She said, “It was an amicable parting. Alcohol and I just drifted gently apart. The surprising thing is that I don’t miss it one bit. Sometimes it feels like it was another lifetime, and maybe it was, because isn’t life all about changing and evolving? And for the better one hopes!
“Drink has always played a huge part in the entertainment industry. I have seen the hours that alcoholism has brought to the lives of some idea colleagues, and consider myself lucky to have relieved myself of at least one demon.”
