Thinking about making those house renovations you’ve been putting off? Or beginning the process of building your dream home?
It’s not always easy to know the ins and outs of construction, so why not ask for a bit of expert help?
Architect Sandra O’Riordan talks us through the five most important questions you should be asking the professionals, and yourself when starting the exciting process!
How you answer these questions will determine whether you will require professional help from an Architect, Structural Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, or Interior Designer, says Sandra.
1. What are the main elements of your existing house or space that you like and do not wish to change?
2. How long do you intend to stay in the current house or space and how much of an investment is it worth to you in terms of time and money.
3. How can you future proof the work you carry out now so that it continues to suit your needs as your children grow older or as your spatial requirements change?
4. What do you want to achieve in terms of accommodation? Is it just an interior make-over (finishes, furniture, lighting etc) or do you need to create more space by knocking or rearranging walls or by adding an extension?
5. Have you thought about finished projects that you admire and where you might get some inspiration or pointers for the design?
Answer these and you’ll have more clarity, says Sandra! www.ocorarchitects.com
