Irish Big Brother star Hughie Maughan has been confirmed as the first celebrity to take part in Dancing with the Stars.
Hughie came in second place on Big Brother earlier this year, and following his incredible success on the reality tv show, has been approached by RTE bosses.
A source told The Irish Sun, “Doing Big Brother in the UK allowed Hughie to break down prejudice against travellers and gay people in Britain.
“Appearing on Dancing With The Stars on RTE will help him do the same in Ireland. But Hughie wants to win.”
According to the newspaper, as the show is based on a similar format to Strictly Come Dancing, BBC bosses make the final decision on which celebrities will appear on the show.
Hughie has nothing to worry about though, as they are quite fond of the Dubliner.
An insider said, “The BBC knew Hughie from UK Big Brother unlike many of the Irish celebs RTE shortlisted for Dancing With The Stars. The BBC thought Hughie would be perfect.”
The show begins on January 8th, on RTE One.
