Model Thalia Heffernan has opened up about the personal insecurities she’s dealt with over the course of her modelling career.
The 21-year-old Dubliner began professional modelling at the tender ages of 15, and has since come clean on the difficulties she faced not being able to experiment and explore her own style during her teenage years.
She also feels that growing up in the social media age has lowered the self esteem of many young women, including her own.
Speaking exclusively in this month’s VIP Magazine Thalia said, “No one feels great all the time. I see pictures of gorgeous people on social media and start hating myself.
“I’ve had massive problems with insecurity. I’m still heavily insecure. I’m only confident enough now to speak about it, but by no means am I healed. I don’t think anyone ever heals from those kinds of wounds.
“I hope that me being vulnerable might help others be strong. I want people to realise that social media is superficial, false and intangible…we judge everyone via social media now.
“You can’t assume what you see online is as perfect as it looks. Everyone has highs and lows. An recently I’ve had some bad lows.”
Despite her tough times, the model wants to let others know that there is light at the end of every tunnel, no matter how dark a situation may seem.
“I do want to let people know it’s natural to feel. And that even if you’re in bloody agony, crumpled in a corner, the world caving in on you, it can change for the better,” she said.
