With giving great Christmas gifts comes great responsibility – gift wrapping.

Dun, dun, dunnn!

Now, maybe you like to leave the gift presentation up to the experts in the shop, but we think there’s nothing sweeter than the effort put into wrapping up a gift for someone special.

If you’re clumsy with sellotape, have a ‘throw it in a nice bag’ mentality, or simply can’t figure out how to make your presents look good, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s a few of our favourite homemade gift wrapping ideas, that will earn you extra kudos with your loved ones – and have you feeling like a DIY queen.

Happy wrapping!

Don’t buy – draw

One of the simplest and cutest ways to decorate a gift? Drawing!

Choose a plain brown wrapping paper, then pick up a marker or some paint and get doodling. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a talented artist; the clumsier the cuter, we reckon.

If you’re really concerned about your skills with a pen, pick a simple pattern like an orange or a flower and repeat it, or just pop one in the centre and tie it with a piece of string.

Et voila!

Ribbon tree

We are obsessed with this unique way of using ribbon to make an abstracted Christmas tree.

All you have to do is make a zig zag pattern and glue or tape the ribbon down; it’s quick, easy, and totally gorgeous.

Add a little star, beads or stickers to make it your own!

Newspaper or old magazines (you may only sacrifice your most ancient STELLARs!) are ideal for a handy and sustainable gift wrap that can be surprisingly personal!

All you have to do is choose pages with images that you think relate to the person in some way; celeb snaps for your pop culture bestie, sudoku and crosswords for your dedicated paper readers, cartoons for the comedy lover.

Another sweet way to personalise is to circle certain words on the pages to create a little scattered message, “you” “me” “best” “pals”, you catch our drift.

Alternatively, keep it simple with any old newspaper page and a big satin bow; cute and classy.

A little something

We love the idea of adding some flair to your gift with a little organic ornament!

We have a tutorial here on how to dry out some oranges, but you could also use dried flowers, a cutting from your Christmas tree, a cinnamon stick or a candy cane.

It’s easy and seriously aesthetic – you can’t go wrong.
