Before he was our Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar was a practicing doctor. He comes from a medical family and is the son of a doctor and a nurse.
Working as a GP for seven years, Varadkar was removed from the register in 2013 to pursue a career in politics. He has announced that he rejoined the medical register in March and will be assisting our many brave healthcare staff in battling Covid-19.
According to sources, Leo will be offering his services one day a week to the HSE. This comes after the HSE appealed last month to all healthcare professionals who aren’t currently working within the HSE to re-register to deal with the pandemic.
Over 50,000 people applied for this recruitment drive within 72 hours. Apparently, Leo will be helping the HSE with it’s the over-the-phone assessments.
