Stephanie Roche took on the salsa this week as she and pro-dancer Ervinas Merfeldas channeled their inner Parisian for a Moulin Rouge performance.
But pro-dancer Ervinas had a very strange method to get in the Moulin Rouge spirit, taking her to lunch for some traditional French cuisine. With Ervinas explaining: “To really get into the French feel I’ve ordered us some French delicacies.”
Straight away Stephanie began to worry, saying: “It’s not going to be escargot is it? Oh my god this isn’t gonna go down well.”
But committed to her craft Stephanie grabbed her knife and fork, and tried some.
“Even though Moulin Rouge has absolutely nothing to do with food, Ervinas made me try escargot. So snails, which wasn’t very nice,” the footballer shared.
After their performance, co-host Doireann Garrihy had to ask about their pre-show diet. Saying: “Talk to me about the snails, the taste, the texture?”
Stephanie shared just how awful it was, warning: “Even when he [Ervinas] went to eat it like I felt like ‘I am gonna get sick,’ it was just a horrible texture.”
But the bizarre snack worked a treat as the pair wowed on the dancefloor with a certain je-ne-sais-quoi.
They earned 17 point, and particularly impressed judge Lorraine Barry.
Sharing her love for their salsa, she said: “It’s so fast. It’s a speedy salsa, and you had lots of fast steps. And you also have the two lifts and you had the dip and you also had a dip inside the lift as well. So there were hits and there were some misses as well as, you pointed out to us, because of that speed.”
“But I just commend you for getting out there. First half, I mean, little bit… Second half you really let it go. And that’s what we want more of so I commend you tonight.”
So maybe there’s something in the escargot!
