Here are five events commemorating St. Brigid that are happening around the country this bank holiday weekend.
Kildare – Brigid 1500 Festival
Kildare County Council have organised a series of events to commemorate and celebrate the long-lasting legacy of St Brigid and the remarkable contributions of Irish women in the arts.
The festival headliners include Imelda May, Una Healy, Darina Allen, Laura Whitmore and Riverdance. With different events all this week and across the weekend, there’s bound to be something to keep you busy!

Dublin – Brigit 2024: Dublin City Celebrating Women
Back for a third year of city-wide celebrations, Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women honours the Saint and Celtic Goddess by showcasing women’s contributions, past and present, underscoring their immense impact on society and celebrating the arrival of Spring!
From Thursday the 1st of February until Monday 5th of February there will be 60+ events across Dublin, including a dazzling parade that will weave through the heart of the city on the bank holiday Monday at 4pm, along with many workshops, experiences, and performances.

Laois – Bríd Faoin Spéir
Taking place from 4pm-8pm on St Brigid’s Day, the 1st of February, Bríd Faoin Spèir is a free outdoor arts event in the Market Square in Portarlington.
Facilitated by the Laois County Arts Office and the Port Art Collective, the event includes writing workshops, poetry readings, craft demonstrations, music from female musicians, and a stunning fire performance by Broken Theatre.

Clare – St Brigids Day at the Cliffs of Moher
From the 29th of January to the 5th of February, the visitors centre at the Cliffs of Mohar is hosting a series of workshops telling the story of St Brigid and demonstrating how to make traditional Brigid’s crosses.
You even get to take your cross home with you, making it the perfect family-friendly pit stop before the sightseeing!

Cork – Crawford Art Gallery
The Crawford Art Gallery in Cork City has organised a programme of free events across the long weekend to celebrate Brigid. There will be music, family-friendly workshops, and special tours of the gallery that highlight the theme of women and mythology in the collection.
