Soundtrack of my Life: Tara Howley

Meet Tara Howley, the multi-award-winning artist and multi-instrumentalist. We sat down with her to find out about the melodies that make her heart sing!

What track do you have on repeat?
Yours by Post Malone. My sister is getting married at the end of April and if you listen to this song you’ll know why I have it on repeat. I bawled my eyes out when I heard it.

What’s your favourite sing-along music?
It has to be anything by Ed Sheeran or ABBA.

What do you listen to when in a bad mood?
Positive affirmations on YouTube. These actually work wonders, I promise! Also love listening to The Secret on Spotify, it helps get me out of a negative head space.

What artist are you loving at the moment?
Sammy Rae & The Friends. Their music is so up lifting. Also Lawrence – amazing artists!

What did you listen to growing up?
A mixture of Christy Moore, Stevie Wonder, The Kilfenora Ceili Band, Noel Hill, Bob Dylan – a great mix!

Best concert you’ve ever been to?
I was just at Lawrence in Vicar Street and they blew me away. Honestly one of the best shows I’ve been to in a long time.

What’s the best thing about being an artist?
Getting to do what I’ve always dreamed of doing as my full time job is a feeling I’ll never take for granted – being able to sing my original songs on stage and have the audience sing them back to me, it’s an amazing feeling.

And the worst?
Constantly feeling like I could be doing more. Being self employed is brilliant, but it does come with all the responsibility, but I honestly wouldn’t change it for the world.

What next?
I’m co-starring in a play called Dockers with George Murphy this month and then I have five cruises as a headline act this year in Norway and Europe so I’m very much looking forward to getting on that ship with my own show. Also a new album, this is a project I’ve always wanted to do so it’s going to be special!

Following a sell-out show in Liberty Hall in 2024 where it received standing ovations, the musical play Dockers comes to The Ambassador Theatre Dublin for a limited run only from Tuesday, 8th to Saturday, 12th April 2025. Tickets are on sale now.
