It’s a very frosty start to the new year, as Met Eireann has warned that plummeting temperatures and snow is most definitely on the way for much of the country.
For Leinster and Munster today, Tuesday the 5th, we will see clouded skies and wintry showers of rain, hail, and sleet. However, things are expected to get even worse as we enter the night.
“Bitterly cold tonight with widespread severe frost and ice” Met.ie reports.
Connacht and Ulster can expect to face the coldest of conditions, “Lows of -1 to -5 degrees, coldest in Connacht and Ulster. Some freezing fog patches may form.”

Wednesday is set to be a little brighter, however the freezing nighttime temperatures will continue on for the remainder of the week, with constant wintry showers throughout both Wednesday and Thursday.
“Frost ice and freezing fog patches clearing very slowly, tomorrow, Wednesday, and lingering in some parts”
“Daytime highs of 1 to 4 degrees with light northerly or variable breezes, but temperatures remaining sub-zero in parts of the midlands and west.”
Met Eireann has said that the cold cycle is expected to end early next week, with temperatures stabilising to more average figures again.
“Temperatures look likely to returning closer to average early next week with a mainly southwesterly airflow establishing.”
