Irish singer, formerly known as Sinead O’Connor has revealed that she has converted to Islam.
The Take Me To Church singer took to Twitter to announce the news earlier this month.
“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim,” she said.
“This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’”
The star previously changed her name to Magda Davitt but due to her new religious stance, she has now chosen to be called Shuhada Davitt.
Davitt also added that she is ‘very very happy’ and posted a video of herself singing ‘the Azan’.
Here is my 1st attempt at singing the Azan. I got some pronouncition wrong because emotions took me from my page… but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come … https://t.co/vDFyheqOOc

“Once I’ve practised the Azan a hundred times I promise I’ll sing it much better than the one I’ve posted,” she later added.
She also thanked other Muslim people who welcomed her into her into Ummah, meaning community.
“Thank you so much to all my Muslim brothers and sisters who have been so kind as to welcome me to Ummah today on this page. You can’t begin to imagine how much your tenderness means to me.”
The same day she announced that she was converting to Islam, the singer also revealed that she reported a sexual assault.
“Oh! And I did make the sexual assault report. And the three male cops (terribly handsome) couldn’t have been more gentle and respectful. Kudos to Kilmainham Garda Station. Happy girl,” she said on Twitter.
