Sile Seoige has revealed she’s suffered two tragic miscarriages since the arrival of her first son in August 2017.
The presenter and her partner Damien welcomed little Cathal to the world three years ago, and admits they’ve tried, on multiple occasions, to have another.
Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, she said, “I’ve had two miscarriages, I’ve had three pregnancies. The first resulted in my little baby boy Cathal who’ll be three in August – two since then were not meant to be, unfortunately.”
Sile admits the grief of miscarriage and losing a baby can hit at any moment and recalls one particular time she was left bereft.
“I remember one time I was in the pool with Damien and Cathal, I was splashing about, having a ball, ” she said.
“At that time, I would have been due a baby, I remember seeing this gorgeous heavily-pregnant woman walking into the pool, I had to go into the corner and roared crying.”
She continued, “I completely forgot and it was a reminder that could have been me. You never forget. Something out of the blue, it can hit you and we need to be aware and be OK that none of us have a rule book and grief has many different layers.
“I will never forget the experience – it’s not a thing you pack in a box and put away, it’s a part of me and my life.”
The presenter hopes to start a conversation so women can speak openly about their heartache, and the tragic loss they’ve suffered.
“I think it’s getting better but the more and more people who talk about it the better. Myself and Kathryn [Thomas] had a conversation about this not so long ago for my podcast,” she said.
“Both of us had miscarriages so it naturally came up in conversation – the reaction since then has been, ‘Thank you for both of you’. If bringing it up helps one person, it’s been worth it.”
