Music fans in Belfast have been left disappointed today, after the city council scrapped a plan to have a MTV music festival in the city.
The council made the harsh decision to cancel the highly anticipated event because of the high number of other musical events scheduled in Belfast during the same time period.
Despite the set-back for music lovers, a spokesman for the council said that they are working towards securing other large-scale shows for the city in the future.
“The MTV gig planned for September is not going ahead due to a number of other competing musical events happening during the same month.
“We are continuing to work with the company to identify other future opportunities as well as looking to secure other major events for the city,” he said.
MTV previously hosted their 2011 European Music Awards in Belfast and that saw the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber making an appearance in the city.
The following year, Pixie Lott and Olly Murs performed at another MTV concert near where the Titanic was launched.
