Sharon Shannon has opened up about the devastating loss of her partner Leo over a decade ago, admitting her turned to music to cope with the loss.
Leo sadly died in 2008, following a heart attack at the incredibly young age of 46.
The pair were happier than ever, and his death rocked Sharon to the core.
Speaking to Brendan Courtney on his new RTE show Keys to my Life, she revealed it took her quite some time to come to terms with his death, as she didn’t want to believe he was gone.
“It felt like, ‘Oh, that didn’t really happen, he’s just away. He’ll be back’,” she said.
“In the first few days, I was just going through all my photos and saving everything that I could. Sometimes I did nearly lose my balance in my legs with the grief. Legs turned to jelly sometimes.”
Sharon reveals music filled their home as she grieved the devastating loss, and really helped her to deal with the devastating situation.
“There was music going at the house 24/7 for about three weeks,” she said.
“Music is an incredible healer, it just lifts up your spirits. It was incredibly sad but uplifting as well, all this music.”
Shortly after his death, the recession hit and Sharon found herself struggling financially.
“The recession happened and the backside fell out of the music industry very suddenly,” she said.
“I had a mortgage on this house, a big mortgage and it was crippling. The whole thing was incredibly stressful, I can’t describe how stressful it was.”
Now she says, it “is just a memory. A nice memory.”
