Shane Filan has paid an emotional tribute to his dad, following the news of his death this week.
Peter sadly died in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin over the weekend, and will be dearly missed by those closest to him.
He will be remembered by his children Finbarr, Peter, Yvonne, Liam, Denise, Mairéad and Shane, plus their extended family and friends too.
Sharing his devastation, Shane said, “On Sunday October 4th my heart was broken. I lost the most important man in my life, my dad Peter.
“He was my best friend, my guidance through life and an absolutely amazing father. He was my hero.”
The singer continued, “He died peacefully in his sleep in the amazing care of the medical team of St Vincent’s hospital, Hawthorn Ward and my brother Peter.
“I can’t thank the staff enough for the incredible care they all gave him over the last year. I’d also like to say thank you to all the Westlife fans and friends around the world for all your lovely messages at this very sad time.”
Shane’s mum Mae sadly passed away just 10 months ago, but it brings him some comfort knowing they’re back together again.
“He was one of a kind and will now be reunited with the love of his life of 55 years, my mum Mae. Together forever.”
A private family funeral will take place this week, but donations in his honour can be made to cancertrials.ie.
