Seven unique experiences to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

Paddy’s Day is approaching, and thankfully, the weather is expected to be good.

This means it is the perfect day to get the whole family together for a day out. Whether you are taking part in your local parade or looking for something different, we have gathered a list of some exciting events taking place over the day.

Hook Lighthouse Tour

If you are named Patrick or Patricia you are in luck! Located on the scenic tip of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford, anyone with either of these names can enjoy a complimentary tour of one of the country’s most iconic landmarks this St. Patrick’s Day!

For everyone else, a fun-filled snake hunt is taking place on Sunday the 16th of March. These fun and engaging hunts will take place on the lighthouse lawns, offering an interactive and adventurous way to explore the area.

The lighthouse is recognised as the world’s oldest intact operational lighthouse. With knowledgeable and friendly tour guides you are sure to have an amazing day out here.

Guinness Storehouse

The Guinness Storehouse and Guinness Open Gate Brewery are alive with another year of incredible celebration this St. Patrick’s Weekend.

Ireland’s most exciting talent and creatives and special performances from musical duo JOY (Anonymous) and seasoned storytellers Seanchoíche will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day this year at The Guinness Storehouse.

As the vibrancy and energy from the Storehouse carry over to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, FoxGluv will kick off the weekend on Friday 14th with a curated lineup of DJs including Efa O’Neill and JWY.

Saturday will be followed by the Six Nations match shown on the big screen before Sally Cinnamon and Pablo Santos spin tunes together from the final whistle until close. And to finish off the weekend celebrations.

On Monday 17th, Mo Cultivation will champion the very best of urban and underground culture with acts like God Knows, Celaviedmai and JyellowL, for a day filled with feel-good fun.

The seven-story building will also be transformed with amazing artwork by Leah Hewson, not to mention the incredible views overlooking Dublin’s Skyline.

St Patrick’s Festival in Waterford

Waterford man Fr Luke Wadding was the founder of St Patrick’s Day. Therefore it is only natural that The Deise goes all out for the special day.

In celebration, this year, Waterford is having a 4-day celebration with many free events for all ages. Here is a rundown of the few days.

The Festival kicks off on March 15th with a funfair, live music, historical tours, river cruises, whisky tastings, and a food and drinks market in Waterford City.

On March 16th, events include an Irish dancing show by the Booley House dancers, Irish language activities, a Celtic Knot workshop, live music, spoken word performances, children’s arts and crafts, historical tours, and free entry to the Medieval Museum.

March 17th brings St. Patrick’s Day parades in Dungarvan, Cappoquin, Tramore, and Waterford City. Waterford’s parade, themed ‘Seize the Déise,’ starts at 1 pm, celebrating local culture, sports, and arts, with the city’s Camogie team participating in the fun.

Abair Journey of a Lament

A unique night as Irish and Finnish folk artists delve into the tradition of death laments, from the Irish caoineadh to the Nordic iktuvirret. Join an evening of song, music, and discussion in The Black Box Theatre, TU Dublin at 7.30 on the 16th of March. Tickets are €20 and still available.

The lineup so far includes RÓIS, Choice Prize-nominated artist behind Mo Léan, Sarah Ghriallais, acclaimed sean-nós singer and Gradam Ceoil winner, Marian Caulfield, ethnomusicologist, University College Cork and Emmi Kuittinen, Finnish folk artist specializing in Karelian & Ingrian music.

The Kane Sisters at Bewley’s Grafton Street

A live performance of traditional music will be held by The Kane Sisters at Bewley’s Grafton Street this Sunday.

The Kane Sisters will transport you to the heart of Irish music offering a mix of folk, storytelling and great music. It is the perfect authentic experience to celebrate Patrick’s day.

The event kicks off at 3pm on the 16th of March.

The Dublin Docklands Walking Tour

For anyone interested in learning more about the history of this essential part of Dublin City, the Docklands Walking Tour is for you.

The tour showcases the Docklands’ historical foundations, architectural and industrial landmarks such as the Custom House, cultural sites like the poignant Famine Memorial, and modern attractions and iconic structures.

Tickets are €27.50 for adults and €15 for children. The event kicks off at 1pm and is taking place from the 14th – 17th of March.

Home of Jameson in Smithfield is set to host an unforgettable St. Patrick’s Weekend celebration, featuring an incredible lineup of live music from Ispíní na hÉireann, NIYL, DUG, KK Lewis, The Kane Sisters, Rachel Mae Hannon, The Bonny Men, plus DJ sets from Sally Cinnamon, Aidan Kelly, and more.

Visitors to Bow St. can enjoy a curated weekend of live music, immersive art and memorable experiences from Friday, March 14th to Monday, March 17th.
