Sarah Greene has revealed she didn’t hesitate when it came to accepting the role of Lorraine in hit show, Normal People.

The Irish actress jumped at the part, and is thrilled to be involved with this adaptation.

Speaking on RTE 2FM this week, Sarah said, “Lorraine was my favourite character in the book so the idea that I could be the person who could bring her to life was just a no brainer for me.

“I absolutely jumped at the chance. I knew it was something really special.”

She continued, “I was nervous, of course, as you are bringing any adaptation to life that people will love it as much as the book.

“I think by all accounts they actually do and I do, I’m such a fan of the show.”

Normal People recently came under fire by Liveline listeners, who likened the show to a ‘porno’.

Earlier this week, director Lenny Abrahamson defended the series, and the inclusion of sex scenes.

Speaking to Maura and Daithi on the Today Show, he said, “It was important for us to represent this relationship truthfully and a big part of it was their physical intimacy.

“And it’s part of the story and, as you’ll see the series go on, it tells you things about the two characters and therefore to do it justice we felt obliged to be truthful to that aspect of it.”

He continued, “I think we did it very sensitively and I would say it’s brilliant radio on Liveline but I wouldn’t say that the callers who were upset about it represent too many people in the country now.

“Generally speaking there has been a very strong positive response to the way sex scenes are shown and the way consent is dealt with.”

The 12-part series, which stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, is currently airing on RTE, and available on the BBC player.
