Saoirse Ronan has recently opened up about the one role she regrets missing out on in her so far incredibly successful acting career.

Despite landing huge movie roles over the years, the Irish actress admitted to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on US television how a certain part she auditioned for in the past still stays with her all these years later.

The role in question? Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter franchise.

Yes, the part inevitably went to fellow Irish actor Evanna Lynch.

Speaking to Jimmy, Saoirse explained: “There are things that you’ll pass on and then they come out, and you think, ‘Oh God, that was a misstep on my part’, but I think the one that stayed with me over the years – I didn’t say no to it, I just didn’t get the part.

“I lost, again. It’s a running theme for me,” the actress joked.

“I had gone up for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter years ago, because it was, like, the Irish character, so they got everyone Irish in – like, half of Ireland to come and audition.

“And I knew I wasn’t going to get it because I was too young, but I got to read out a scene that was going to be in Harry Potter and it was the coolest thing ever.”

Well, you know what they say Saoirse, everything happens for a reason!

As to what Saoirse is currently up to, well you can catch her on the silver screen in the Oscar-tipped recovery drama The Outrun, which tells the story of Rona, a young woman returning home to the Orkney Islands following a 90-day rehab programme after years of partying and struggling with alcoholism in London.

Critics are already predicting an Oscar nomination for her role. However, this isn’t the only Oscar nod for the Irish actress this year – she is also starring in Blitz, which is set to be released in November.

There’s no stopping her!
