Saoirse Ronan is set to star in a new film detailing the life of Mary, Queen of Scots. The Carlow native will play one of the most remembered royals in history.
The movie will tell the tale of Mary, and how she was pitted against her English cousin, Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth imprisoned her cousin for 18 years before having her executed. The story has politics, religion, sex and betrayal all intertwined.
Saoirse is currently filming the screen version of Ian McEwan’s novel On Chesil Beach alongside Billy Howle. Set in 1962, the story tells the tale of a newlywed couple on their honeymoon in Dorset. Saoirse stars as the young wife Florence in the upcoming flick.
Filming is due to start on Mary, Queen of Scots next year.
