Hollywood starlet Saoirse Ronan has been announced as the starring role in the film adaptation of the UK novel On Chesil Beach, by Ian McEwan.
The novel, which is set in 1962, tells the story of a newlywed couple on their honeymoon in Dorset. Saoirse will be starring as the young wife Florence, but who will take on the role of her husband Edward is yet to be announced.
The film is set on the real Chesil Beach, and similar to Colm Tobin’s Brooklyn, it is the first time the novel has been adapted for the screen.
This is Saoirse’s second time working on an adaptation of McEwans. The 21-year-old starred in Atonement in 2007, and received her first Oscar nomination at the tender age of thirteen. She is now nominated in the Best Actress category at this year’s Oscars for her role as Eilis Lacey in Brooklyn. The film is also nominated in the Best Picture category, and won a Bafta at the prestigious award ceremony in London last week.
Although the Irish actress has been busy with award season as of late, next month she will be back to work with her next acting venture as she takes to the stage in The Crucible on Broadway.
