Derry Girls may just be one of the greatest sitcoms to come out of Ireland.
And that’s just straight facts!
However, it was much more than a show for those who starred in it.
Take Saoirse-Monica Jackson for example, the actress just recently revealed that no job will ever mean quite as much to her as the hit comedy series.
Speaking to the RTE Guide, she said: “I learned so much about the industry and myself, where my strengths and my weaknesses as an actor lie, and what to work on.
“It was also about depicting my hometown, with my hometown taking it into their hearts. So, I don’t ever think that there would be a job that will mean as much sentimentally as that,” she added.
Despite its instant success, Saoirse had no idea that it would blow up as quickly as it did.
“Derry Girls was its own beast, a world of its own and for me it felt like home. It’s weird now looking back at that time. In one way, I was not prepared for all that followed, but I always believed it would be a hit.”
Since wrapping Derry Girls, Saoirse has went on to star in numerous successful projects.
Her latest role will see her take on an “epic” new crime series.
The series has the working title of This City is Ours and tells the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime, working for his friend and the gang leader Ronnie.
“When Ronnie begins to hint at retirement, Michael too begins to imagine another life. Because, for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose – Diana.”
Safe to say, we’re intrigued!
