Eamonn Holmes and his wife and co-presenter Ruth Langsford have completed the last of their summer presenting run on ITV’s This Morning.
Former X-Factor contestant Rylan Clark also presents on the morning programme, and yesterday, on her final summer show, Ruth made a homophobic comment towards Rylan live on air.
During the cooking segment on the show Eamonn and Ruth were helping chef Brian Turner make cottage pie, and they were talking about good quality meat.
Brian said, “Buy a good mince meat, pay a bit extra for it. Go into the butchers and say, ‘I’d like a pound and a half of that meat, now will you mince it for me?'”
Eamonn then added, “If you know a good mincer, that’s the place to go,” and that’s when Ruth chimed in and said “Where is Rylan, by the way?”
The homophobic term “mincer” has been used to describe a gay man. Although it was insensitive, Ruth did appear sorry that she said such a thing, as she raised her hand to her mouth after using the term.
Rylan, however, didn’t seem to take offence to the comment. He even took to Twitter soon after the incident to shut down any hate towards Ruth.
He wrote, “Seen comments about @RuthieL today. I’m not offended in the slightest. I adore the woman and she would never mean anything with malice X.”
Oh Rylan, ever the professional. Eamonn and Ruth will return to their regular Friday slot.
