Ryan Tubridy has shared his heartfelt congratulations to colleague Claire Byrne, as he welcomed her to the RTE Radio 1 family.
Earlier this week it was revealed Claire would be taking over Sean O’Rourke’s Today show, following his recent retirement.
While Sarah McInerney had been filling in over the last few weeks, the permanent position went to Claire.
Gushing over Sarah’s incredible work, Ryan told listeners that he has no doubt she’ll be back on the airwaves soon.
“Sarah McInerney has been so excellent in the mornings that we are spoilt for choice here and blessed to have that choice. I have no doubt Sarah will find a home on the schedule in due course and I look forward to that happening.”
He continued, “I just wanted to say congratulations to Claire, she’s a wonderful colleague, extraordinarily talented person, brilliant at her job and a very welcome addition to the schedule here in RTE. I’m really really happy that she’s here and she’s so welcome.”
From Monday, August 24th, Claire will present the two-hour programme on weekdays from 10am to 12pm.
Speaking about her new role, Claire said, “I am truly delighted, honoured and humbled to be taking on this new role at RTÉ Radio 1. My job will be to represent the voices of the RTÉ Radio 1 listeners, and to always ask the questions they want answered at this most critical time.
“I won’t let them down. I can’t wait to get started with the legendary team who work on the show and to help craft with them, the informative, entertaining and important Today show we’ve all come to know, love and rely on in our daily listening lives.”
