Ryan Tubridy has shared his joy as restrictions ease around the country from today. The presenter was speaking on his RTE radio show this morning as he spoke emotionally about how different opening up this time will be.
“A long cold dark winter is over and we’re now into a different game altogether. This is not like before, this is not like when they lifted the restrictions at Christmas where there were no vaccines.”
“This time the number of older people vaccinated, the underlying illness people vaccinated, the frontline workers vaccinated this makes it a totally different ball game.”
“As we have been hearing all morning more vaccines are coming down the line so as we thread carefully but confidently into the future this is a good news day,” he added.
Today we will see inter-country travel restrictions lifted, as well as the exciting news that hairdressers and barbers would be reopening.
As businesses, many of which have been closed for over three months, reopen Ryan shared his well wishes as people return to work.
“It is a good Monday for most people this morning and I suppose people who are lifting the shutters physically for the first time today will be a little nervous about it all and that’s understandable.”
“But be excited too because hopefully, people will be out and about spending their money and kind of getting the economy kick-started again.”
Remaining positive, Ryan said; “Essentially good luck to everyone today who are maybe visiting or hugging or doing whatever they can do.”
“All these vaccinated people who can do all these good things. Everyone else has to be a little bit more careful but that’s okay because it will all come out good in the end so good luck and have fun.”
Finally, Ryan shared his hopes that this is the beginning of the country opening, and staying open for the foreseeable future too; “You can understand why we are human beings we need to get out and be about and as I said we are on the right road.”
“A lot of towns and villages around the country this weekend turned into kind of festival villages – lots of plastic pints and people getting together.”
“It is so normal that people would want to do that and I know some people were freaked out by it and some people maybe got a little bit hectic in some places but the bottom line of it is the normality some people felt just being able to have a couple of drinks outdoors with some friends.”
