Ryan Tubridy has opened up about the tragic death of his pal Terry Wogan.
Terry passed away at the beginning of the year after a short battle with cancer and The Late Late Show host has revealed that he was deeply saddened by his death.
The broadcasters were friends for a number of years and Terry even took Ryan under his wing and became his mentor.
Ryan told the Sunday World, “I became friendly with Terry, we communicated a lot by email and we had a lovely lunch once where was very generous with advice and took me under his wing.
“He said ‘when you’re in town, anything I can do for you’. He was very paternal and very generous.
“He told me ‘if you need a steer I’ve got your back’. I thought it was a very nice thing for somebody I didn’t particularly know to do.”
Ryan went on to say that he was understandably upset by the broadcasting legend’s passing as they got on so well and he regrets not getting to know Terry better.
He said, “We got on well and I was sorry we didn’t get to know each other a bit better, I was naturally very sad when he passed away.”
