Ryan Tubridy has revealed he’s spent a lot of time over the last week thinking about Covid-19 and the struggles people all across the country are facing, as he admits “hope is running out”.
The number of cases continue to skyrocket on a daily basis, as well as hospital admissions too. Businesses across the country have been forced to close and thousands of people have found themselves out of work.
Speaking to listeners on his RTE Radio 1 show, Ryan said, “There’s no way to sugarcoat what’s happening at the moment. There’s no doubting it, it’s a tricky time, and no amount of lipstick will make this pandemic pig look good because it is a dark time. I didn’t see this coming.
“I just think for a lot of people hope is running out, and strength of character is running out. And money is running out. And I think that’s not an easy one for people. They’re feeling a little at the end of the rope, and wondering: is this thing ever going to end?
“The good news is of course it is. But it’s just going to take a lot longer than we expected.”
As it stands, we’re in a level five lockdown across the country in a bid to slow the spread of this virus. Earlier this week new measures were brought in it was confirmed schools would remain closed until the end of January and non essential building work must cease.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin said, “As of now 3,679 people across our island have lost their lives to the disease. Hospitals across this island and continent are under siege from the disease.
“The lockdown we are introducing today is due to this stark reality. Unless you are engaging in essential work, you have no reason to be away from your home and you simply must stay at home.”
