Laura Whitmore received some criticism online after the Love Island reunion aired last weekend.
The reunion took place on Sunday night and while many were excited to see how the Islanders were doing after the show, many took to Twitter to say they found it awkward and even dull.
After the show aired, host Laura Whitmore took to Instagram to defend the show.
She responded to a DM from someone who criticised her for asking the contestants “invasive questions”.
Laura responded by explained that she checks the Qs with Islanders before they go on tv.
“I insist everyone sees the questions before they go on air and are ok with it. I believe in choice, so nothing is ever asked without permission… that is the difference!” she said.
She added: “Consent is an important word that can become blurred. Everyone has a choice and everyone has a right to make their own decisions.”
She added that she wanted to ‘address a few other things’.
“Hundreds of people work on Love Island. My job is not to organise seating arrangements. I barely know what seat I’m sitting in before the show as the set changes so much,” she said.
Now, Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy is coming to Laura’s defence, telling people they are mistaking her role in the production.
On his RTÉ Radio 1 show he said, “Laura Whitmore is getting an awful time in the UK at the moment.
“It seems to be about Love Island, which obviously I haven’t watched but I realised how popular it is, and she’s the presenter of that. She’s getting quite a tough time for whatever reasons.
“My inclination is that for whatever reason, people seem to be reading her role as presenter versus a programme creator and producer – from my interpretation, speaking to my Love Island correspondents at home.”
“People should leave her well enough alone. She’s one of ours, she’s over there, flying the flag. It’s not easy, when you become the fodder for an angry mob.”
“I’d be inclined to square behind one of our compatriots who is over there doing a fine job, thank you very much,” he said.
The producers of the show recently asked viewers to direct any complaints and questions about the show’s reunion toward them instead of Laura.
