On Tuesday night, we saw Ireland’s entry for the Eurovision, Wild Youth, take to the stage in the hopes of making it through to this year’s grand finale.
Since then, Ireland’s Eurovision strategy process has come under fire, with many sharing their thoughts on what needs to change.
One such person who decided to weigh in on the debate is former finalist Ryan O’Shaughnessy, who made it to the final back in 2018 with his song Together.

Taking to Twitter to share his opinion, Ryan wrote: “Irish Eurovision delegation needs mixing up, I think we should think about doing what UK did a few years back and outsource required jobs to music industry folks like myself.
“In 2018 when I qualified with the song Together I stepped in as creative director after refusing to emerge from an exploding cake and pushed hard to have 2 male dancers on stage with me, which was a hard sell at the time…
“I was responsible for signing off on final production of the track itself, I hired an independent stylist, and made sure the project as a whole had some content to it and it wasn’t just a song, but a message. All these factors helped get Ireland into the final.
Ryan then explained how he feels there should be Irish songwriting camps for those wanting to create a “brilliant song” as well a larger budget for international marketing.
He also called for the selected song to be released at least four or five months before the contest, to get it out in the world.
He concluded his post by adding that these were just his personal opinions and in no way was he having a “having a go” at Michael Kealy, the head of the Irish delegation.
Ryan was the last Irish act to qualify for the grand finale back in 2018
