Ryan Andrews has shared his joy and relief that his father, Jimmy, has made a full recovery from Covid, as they headed off on a golf trip together this week.
Posting to his Instagram stories the Fair City star shared that this is a trip they go on every year and recently they were concerned he wouldn’t be able to go.
However, the actor shared his delight that his Dad was fighting fit as they headed off; “Today is a special day. My dad is going golfing today.”
“He goes on a golf trip every year down to the country, him and loads of the lads. That’s a huge thing. It’s always in around the Father’s Day so he gets the clothes the week before as the present and then he goes on the golf trip.”
Continuing he added; “There was a talk a couple of weeks ago about whether could he make it or not. Basically he said, ‘I’m going to do it, I’m going to make it, I’m going to be there’.”
“You’re talking a couple of weeks ago – he was still getting physio, still getting rehab in the Mater and stuff. He did all his rehab, he’s doing really well. He’s gone now, he’ll be on a buggy, but he’s going down for the two nights.”
As he shared this update with his followers he also added; “It might seem something so small but that’s what you kind of cling onto you know. It’s just a golf trip but it seems so much more when there was a point where you thought that would never ever again.”
Ryan shared at the start of this year that his Dad had contracted Covid-19 over the Christmas period.
At the time he said; “For 10 days at home he felt progressively worse, went to the doctor and was rushed to hospital straight away where he collapsed on arrival! My Dad is a very fit man, cycles to and from work every day and walks at least 5k with me and Ralph every evening.”
“I never imagined getting a call to say he was in ICU & being put into a coma and onto a ventilator!!”
Ryan continued, revealing how difficult an ordeal it was for his family too; “As a family we were absolutely devastated and terrified, jumping every time the phone rang and hanging onto every word from the nurses and doctors who were caring for him 24-7.”
Thankfully, Jimmy is home and with his family and we wish him well on his road to recovery.
