Rosanna Davison has shared the sweet reason she had for naming her newborn daughter.
The model and her husband Wes Quirke welcomed their first child via gestational surrogate last month, and have since travelled back from Ukraine to Ireland with their little bundle of joy.
Speaking about her excitement at finally having baby Sophia at home for Christmas, Rosanna shared the significance behind the beautiful name herself and Wes chose for their daughter.
“It’s been 24 hours since we brought baby Sophia home from Kiev, she’s settled in really well & has been getting to know her grandparents & furry big brothers,” the former Miss World shared on social media.
“Back when we began the medical & legal side of our surrogacy journey in Feb 2018, we never dreamed that we’d be lucky enough to take our beautiful daughter home for Christmas the very next year.
“It’s a long, stressful, expensive process and there are no absolute guarantees. At the beginning of this year, we spent a few weeks in Kiev for the egg retrieval process & stayed beside St. Sophia’s Cathedral.
“The night before my procedure, we walked up to the cathedral in the freezing cold & @wesquirke took this photo… we both loved the name & agreed that if we happened to have a baby girl, we’d name her Sophia as a nod to our long journey to become her parents (it also comes from the Greek word for wisdom!
“So here we are! In a magical baby bubble at the most wonderful time of the year. We’ll be forever grateful to the many people who have supported, guided & helped us over the last couple of years – you know who you are.”
The new mammy recently shared an update on adjusting to life with a newborn, saying she’s loving her new role more than anything.
How sweet?!
