Well, this is an exciting development!

Golfing legend, Rory McIlroy is set to make his film debut in the upcoming sequel to Happy Gilmore.

And yes, you did read that correctly.

The film is a follow-up to the 1996 original, which told the story of the titular character (played by Adam Sandler) squaring off with Shooter McGavin (played by Christopher McDonald).

The sequel is set to be released on Netflix later this year and boasts a star-studded cast.

Given that he’s a professional in the sport, Rory leads the golfing contingent which also includes Bryson DeChambeau, Will Zalatoris, Brooks Kopka, Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas.

Rory is certainly no stranger to drama related to the golf course, having been a vocal critic of the LIV Golf Tour since its inception.

So we’re sure, he’ll fit right in!

Alongside the sporting professionals, the cast will also include Kansas City Chiefs star – and boyfriend of Taylor Swift – Travis Kelce, AEW wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and pop star Bad Bunny.

But of course, it wouldn’t be Happy Gilmore if Adam Sandler wasn’t coming back to reprise his iconic role as the goofy hockey player-turned-golfer.

And since Adam is writing the script alongside the original co-writer Tim Herlihy, we can no doubt expect the same wit and humour from its predecessor.

While a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, filming has begun on Happy Gilmore 2 and it’s safe to say fans can’t wait for the day it hits our screens.
