Rory McIlroy is set to donate his Irish Open winnings to three charities.
The Down native will give all of his €666,000 prize money from this weekend’s competition to the Jack and Jill Foundation, Barretstown and the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.
Speaking today on RTE Radio 1 the CEO of the Jack and Jill foundation, Jonathan Irwin, said, “The amount of money we are going to get is going to allow us to provide an extra 20,000 hours of nursing to our 300 children across the country. It’s massive.
“We’re 19 years old now and we have never, ever received anything like this, or this amount in all those years. It’s quite extraordinary.”
CEO’s from Barretstown and LauraLynn also expressed their gratitude to the Down native, calling his generosity “life-changing” and “wonderful”.
This isn’t the first time that Rory has been recognised for his charitable ways, having been named as one of Ireland’s most selfless celebrities last year, along with Niall Horan.
